For You, Infinitely 2023- Ongoing

"For You, Infinitely" invites viewers to listen to the stories of past and present, connecting generations across time and space. Rooted in the cherished pages of my mother Nicoli’s childhood photo album, this project explores her life in St. Thomas, Jamaica, and her migration to Brooklyn, New York as a young adult. Each faded page reveals the history of my family's dreams, love, and resilience.

By juxtaposing contemporary imagery with archives from my mother's childhood, I illuminate a narrative of resilience and perseverance. An affinity is forged as my nieces lean into the whispers of stories, bridging generations to feel the transmission of heritage. This intergenerational act tying my mother and my nieces transcends mere physical interaction. It becomes a lyrical dialogue across time, where memories flow like a river through the ages.

Reflecting on the intimate bonds between family, my work asks viewers to consider how these connections shape our identities. In my practice combined with ground provisions such as breadfruit, pumpkin, and more, pays homage to the ingenuity and strength of our ancestors. Historically, ground provisions, known as root vegetables, played a crucial role in sustaining enslaved Africans in Jamaica, who cultivated them to maintain survival and a connection to their agricultural traditions despite oppressive conditions.

"For You, Infinitely" is a tribute to the resilience of my family and the broader Afro-Caribbean diaspora. It seeks to illuminate the enduring spirit that sustains us, transcending time and space to affirm our place in the world and our connection to each other.
